The DNI, via its technology business, Digital Ecosystems (“DigiCo”), has completed the acquisition of a controlling stake in Mauritian AI technology business Digitata Limited (“Digitata”) for approximately USD 6 million. The acquisition forms part of the DNI Group’s objective of expanding its global footprint into businesses with scalable technology solutions that help deliver connectivity, convenience and digital inclusion.
“Digitata is a highly innovative business with decades of experience in developing valuable services for mobile networks globally. It is exactly the type of business in which the DNI Group looks to invest due to its ability to leverage world-class, proprietary technology to deliver real value to end- customers. We hope to help scale the business globally where its solutions can benefit our wider ecosystem and are excited to work with this exceptional team going forward” – Ross Venter, CEO of DigiCo.
Digitata develops products which leverage machine learning and artificial intelligence to optimise the prepaid solutions offered to consumers for mobile network operators / carriers in emerging market economies such as Africa and Asia. However, these solutions are becoming increasingly popular in developed markets as consumers look for mobile packages that give them what they want at the right price, instead of the typical “comprehensive packages” which provide more than what consumers need, forcing them to spend more than they should.
“We are thrilled to embark on this exciting new chapter as Digitata joins forces with DigiCo. This strategic investment opens doors to a world of expanded opportunities and growth. By combining our strengths and expertise, we are well-positioned to drive innovation and create even greater value for our clients. Together, we will build upon our respective successes, fostering a culture of collaboration and unlocking synergies that will fuel our collective growth and elevate our position in the telecoms sector” – Richard Walton, CEO of Digitata.
Following the transaction close, DigiCo and Digitata will work together to cross-sell solutions across their shared global footprint to scale and unlock value for consumers, mobile network operators and the wider communities in which they serve.
